„The North Star“ is a 1943 pro-resistance war film directed by Lewis Milestone from a screenplay by Lillian Hellman and Burt Beck.

In June 1941, a group of young villagers in a Ukrainian farming cooperative plan a trip to Kiev, unaware of the impending German invasion. As the war arrives with airstrikes and ground troops, they become separated, with Kolya heading to rejoin his regiment while the others try to return to their village. Meanwhile, villagers form a guerrilla army, and tensions rise as Marina’s mother, Sophia, and Dr. Kurin face difficult moral decisions under German occupation. Their journey and the war will test their courage and convictions.

Im Juni 1941 plant eine Gruppe junger Dorfbewohner in einer ukrainischen Bauerngenossenschaft eine Reise nach Kiew, ohne von der bevorstehenden deutschen Invasion zu wissen. Als der Krieg mit Luftangriffen und Bodentruppen beginnt, werden sie getrennt: Kolya macht sich auf den Weg, um sich seinem Regiment anzuschließen, während die anderen versuchen, in ihr Dorf zurückzukehren. In der Zwischenzeit bilden die Dorfbewohner eine Partisanenarmee, und die Spannungen nehmen zu, als Marinas Mutter Sophia und Dr. Kurin unter der deutschen Besatzung vor schwierigen moralischen Entscheidungen stehen. Ihre Reise und der Krieg werden ihren Mut und ihre Überzeugungen auf die Probe stellen.
