“The Man on the Eiffel Tower” is a 1949 crime film directed by Burgess Meredith, Irving Allen and Charles Laughton. The screenplay by Harry Brown is based on the 1931 novel „La Tête d’un homme“ by Georges Simenon.

French police inspector Maigret investigates the murder of a wealthy Paris widow and her maid and ends up chasing the killer up the girders of the Eiffel Tower.
In Paris, down and out medical student Johann Radek is paid by Bill Kirby to murder his wealthy aunt. A knife sharpener is the prime suspect, but Radek keeps taunting the police until they realize that he’s the killer. The police and Inspector Maigret are led on a chase through the streets and over the rooftops of Paris and finally up the girders of the Eiffel Tower.

Das Drehbuch von Harry Brown basiert auf dem Roman „La Tête d’un homme“ (Maigret kämpft um den Kopf eines Mannes) von Georges Simenon aus dem Jahr 1931.

Der französische Polizeikommissar Maigret untersucht den Mord an einer wohlhabenden Pariser Witwe und ihrer Hausangestellten und jagt den Mörder schließlich die Stahlträger des Eiffelturms hinauf.
In Paris wird der mittellose Medizinstudent Johann Radek von Bill Kirby dafür bezahlt, seine wohlhabende Tante zu ermorden. Ein Messerschleifer gilt als Hauptverdächtiger, doch Radek verspottet die Polizei so lange, bis sie erkennt, dass er der Mörder ist. Die Polizei und Inspektor Maigret werden auf eine Verfolgungsjagd durch die Straßen und über die Dächer von Paris und schließlich auf die Stahlträger des Eiffelturms geführt.
