“The Viking” is a 1928 synchronized sound drama film directed by Roy William Neill, written by Jack Cunningham and Randolph Bartlett (titles), based on the 1902 novel “The Thrall of Leif the Lucky“ by Ottilie A. Liljencrantz.
The title refers to Leif Ericsson, who leaves Norway to search for new lands west of Greenland. On the way he vies for the love of Helga with his companion Egil and Alwin, an English slave. More conflict arises when he stops at the colony of his father (Eric the Red) in Greenland, for Leif has converted to Christianity, which his father hates. He also has to deal with the unrest of his crew, who fear falling off the edge of the Earth.

„Die Teufel der Nordsee“ (The Viking) ist ein synchronisierter Tonfilm aus dem Jahr 1928 unter der Regie von Roy William Neill, geschrieben von Jack Cunningham und Randolph Bartlett (Titel), basierend auf dem Roman „The Thrall of Leif the Lucky“ von Ottilie A. Liljencrantz aus dem Jahr 1902.
Der Titel bezieht sich auf Leif Ericsson, der Norwegen verlässt, um westlich von Grönland nach neuen Ländern zu suchen. Unterwegs wetteifert er mit seinem Gefährten Egil und Alwin, einem englischen Sklaven, um die Liebe von Helga. Weitere Konflikte entstehen, als er in der Kolonie seines Vaters (Erik der Rote) in Grönland Halt macht, denn Leif ist zum Christentum konvertiert, was sein Vater verabscheut.
