“A Close Resemblance” is a 1917 short comedy film written and directed by Mrs. Sidney Drew and Sidney Drew with titles by Tom Bret.

Mom and dad proudly exhibit a beautiful child which daddy persists in believing bears an uncanny resemblance to himself. His jealous attempts to convince not only his uncomplaining wife, but others, of the baby's striking resemblance to him compose the meat of the comedy of the picture. Daddy takes the pretty youngster down the street with him while he gets a shoe-shine and a shave. Unfortunate remarks passed by the barber and the bootblack with regard to the baby's beauty and his non-resemblance to his daddy are torture to the latter. On the beach he meets the same unhappy condition, and is inconsolable until finally his mother-in-law appears on the scene to behold her grandchild for the first time, and declares that he is the image of his dad.

Seine eifersüchtigen Versuche, nicht nur seine geduldige Frau, sondern auch andere davon zu überzeugen, dass das Baby ihm auffallend ähnlich sieht, bilden den Kern der Komik des Films. Papa nimmt den hübschen Kleinen mit auf die Straße, während er sich die Schuhe putzen und rasieren lässt. Unglückliche Bemerkungen des Friseurs und des Schuhputzers über die Schönheit des Babys und dessen mangelnde Ähnlichkeit mit seinem Vater sind für diesen eine Qual. Am Strand trifft ihn dasselbe unglückliche Schicksal, und er ist untröstlich, bis schließlich seine Schwiegermutter auftaucht, um ihren Enkel zum ersten Mal zu sehen, und erklärt, dass er das Ebenbild seines Vaters sei.
