“Misericordia” è un film drammatico del 2023 diretto da Emma Dante, scritto da Dante insieme a Elena Stancanelli e Giorgio Vasta, tratto dall’omonima opera teatrale di Dante.

Un film ambientato in un piccolo villaggio di pescatori in Sicilia, costituito da capanne di pietra fatiscenti, circondate da rifiuti e rottami metallici. Alle sue spalle si erge una montagna maestosa. È qui che nasce e cresce Arturo, figlio della povertà e della violenza; è qui che sua madre muore dandogli alla luce. Betta, Nuccia e la giovane Anna, prostitute come lo era sua madre, si prendono cura di lui come se fosse il loro stesso figlio, in balia di un amore disperato fatto di carezze e impazienza, crudeltà e tenerezza.

Arturo compie 18 anni; a volte sembra ancora un bambino, altre volte appare molto vecchio. È nato con una disabilità; si muove in modo strano; si rapporta al mondo con un’anima diversa. Guarda le persone che lo circondano come guarderebbe la montagna che sta scalando: senza paura. È un invisibile tra gli invisibili e deve lottare, come tutti gli altri a Contrada Tuono, per sopravvivere, ma il suo modo puro e diverso di vedere il mondo porta con sé la speranza.

‘Misericordia’ is a 2023 drama film directed by Emma Dante, co-written by Dante, Elena Stancanelli and Giorgio Vasta, based on the eponymous play by Dante.

A film that takes place in a small fishing village in Sicily made up of ramshackle stone huts, surrounded by rubbish and scrap metal. Behind it lies a majestic mountain. It is here that Arturo is born and raised, a child of poverty and violence; it is here that his mother dies giving birth to him. Betta, Nuccia and young Anna, prostitutes like his mother was, look after him as if he were their own son, in the mercy of a desperate love made up of caresses and impatience, cruelty and tenderness.

Arturo turns 18; at times he still seems like a child, at others he appears very old. He was born with a disability; he moves in a strange way; he engages with the world with a different soul. He looks at the people around him as he would the mountain he is climbing: Without fear. He is an invisible among the invisible and must fight, like everyone else in Contrada Tuono, to survive, but his pure and different way of seeing the world carries hope within him.

Hier wird Arturo geboren und wächst auf, ein Kind der Armut und Gewalt; hier stirbt seine Mutter bei seiner Geburt. Betta, Nuccia und die junge Anna, Prostituierte wie einst seine Mutter, kümmern sich um ihn, als wäre er ihr eigener Sohn – ausgeliefert einer verzweifelten Liebe, die aus Zärtlichkeit und Ungeduld, Grausamkeit und Zärtlichkeit besteht.

Arturo wird 18; manchmal wirkt er noch wie ein Kind, manchmal erscheint er sehr alt. Er wurde mit einer Behinderung geboren; er bewegt sich auf seltsame Weise; er begegnet der Welt mit einer anderen Seele. Er betrachtet die Menschen um sich herum so, wie er den Berg betrachten würde, den er erklimmt: ohne Angst. Er ist ein Unsichtbarer unter den Unsichtbaren und muss, wie alle anderen in Contrada Tuono, um sein Überleben kämpfen, doch seine reine und andere Sichtweise auf die Welt trägt Hoffnung in sich.
