“Steamboat Bill, Jr.” is a silent comedy film directed by Charles Reisner and Buster Keaton, written by Carl Harbaugh (story & screenplay) and Buster Keaton (screenplay).

It was Buster Keaton’s last independently produced masterpiece. Although solidly executed and featuring many brilliant ideas, the film was not a commercial success.
Keaton plays a dreamy dandy who is unable to help his father, an old Mississippi steamboat captain, in his battle against his rival, the filthy rich Mr. King. On the contrary: Buster falls in love with King’s daughter!
One scene in the film became famous: the facade of a house tilts forward while Keaton stands in the open doorway. He performed this stunt himself, as was common practice at the time.

Buster Keatons letztes unabhängig produziertes Meisterwerk. Obwohl solide ausgeführt und mit vielen glänzenden Einfällen versehen, wurde der Film kein kommerzieller Erfolg.
Keaton spielt einen verträumten Dandy, der seinem Vater, einem alten Mississippi-Dampfschiff-Kapitän, bei dessen Kampf gegen seinen Konkurrenten, den stinkreichen Mr. King, nicht helfen kann. Im Gegenteil: Buster verliebt sich in Kings Tochter!
Eine Filmszene wurde berühmt: Die Fassade eines Hauses kippt nach vorne, während Keaton in der offenen Tür steht. Er hatte auch diesen Stunt, wie zu dieser Zeit allgemein üblich, selber durchgeführt.
