“The New Janitor” is a 1914  short silent comedy film written and directed by Charles Chaplin.

Janitor Charlie gets fired for dumping a bucket of water out the window and accidentally hitting his boss, the bank president. Meanwhile, the junior manager is being threatened by the accountant, who wants to expose his gambling debts. So the crook decides to steal the money from the bank. But while trying to break into the vault, he is caught red-handed by the secretary. She calls for help, and Charlie arrives. However, he is eventually accused by the bank president of being the thief. But the secretary clears up the misunderstanding, and so Charlie receives a reward and a handshake for foiling the bank robbery.

„Der neue Hausmeister“ ist eine kurze Stummfilmkomödie aus dem Jahr 1914, bei der Charles Chaplin sowohl das Drehbuch schrieb als auch die Regie führte.

Hausmeister Charlie wird gefeuert, weil er einen Eimer Wasser aus dem Fenster kippt und versehentlich seinen Chef, den Präsidenten der Bank, trifft. In der Zwischenzeit wird der Junior Manager vom Buchhalter bedroht, der seine Spielschulden offenlegen will. Also beschließt der Schurke, das Geld von der Bank zu stehlen. Doch wird er beim Versuch in den Tresorraum einzudringen von der Sekretärin auf frischer Tat ertappt. Sie ruft um Hilfe und Charlie kommt. Jedoch wird er schließlich vom Boss der Bank beschuldigt, der Dieb zu sein. Doch die Sekretärin klärt den Irrtum auf, und so bekommt Charlie eine Belohnung und einen Handschlag, weil er den Bankraub vereitelt hat.
