„Felix in Hollywood“ is a 1923 animated silent comedy short film written and directed by Otto Messmer.

Felix is watching a jobless actor rehearse his lines: „A ham, A ham! My kingdom for a ham sandwich!!!“ The penniless dramatic guy tells Felix he’ll „have to sacrifice my art and go into the movies.“ He’s in tears. Felix just looks at him like he’s nuts, and shrugs his shoulders. The starving old guy tells Felix to „go ye forth“ and find money to finance a trip to Hollywood. Felix thinks, „How does he expect me to get the money?“ So his owner sends him out to get a job.

Felix spots a shoe business owner putting up a „bankrupt“ sale on his store. Felix comes up with a plan to bail him out and the man promises the cat $500 if it works. He plans on bringing in customers by forcing them to step in bubble gum. His scheme is successful and he earns $500, which he hands over to his owner. But the man wants to go alone and leave Felix at home. In an outrageous scene, Felix transforms himself into a briefcase and that’s how he gets to Hollywood, transforming himself back to cat when they get there.

When they arrive in Hollywood, Felix dumps his owner to pursue his own career in acting at Static Studio, where he is more than happy to display his acting skills, showing both joy and sorrow for the studio boss. Soon after, he hears someone yelling for help, and to his surprise, finds Douglas Fairbanks being attacked by giant mosquitoes. Also standing nearby is William S. Hart, whom he grabs a gun from and shoots the mosquitoes. This act of bravery amuses Cecil B. DeMille, who then signs him to a contract.

Felix also runs into Charlie Chaplin, Will Hays, Snub Pollard, Ben Turpin and Gloria Swanson by peeping through the keyhole of her dressing room.

Felix entdeckt einen Schuhverkäufer, der sein Geschäft als „bankrott“ verkauft. Felix denkt sich einen Plan aus, um ihm aus der Patsche zu helfen, und der Mann verspricht dem Kater 500 Dollar, wenn es klappt. Er plant, Kunden anzulocken, indem er sie zwingt, in Kaugummi zu treten. Sein Plan ist erfolgreich und er verdient 500 Dollar, die er seinem Besitzer übergibt. Aber der Mann will allein gehen und Felix zu Hause lassen. In einer haarsträubenden Szene verwandelt sich Felix in eine Aktentasche und gelangt so nach Hollywood, wo er sich wieder in eine Katze zurückverwandelt, als sie dort ankommen.

In Hollywood angekommen, verlässt Felix seinen Besitzer, um seine eigene Schauspielkarriere im Static Studio zu verfolgen, wo er seine schauspielerischen Fähigkeiten gerne unter Beweis stellt und dem Studioboss sowohl Freude als auch Leid zufügt. Kurz darauf hört er Hilferufe und findet zu seiner Überraschung Douglas Fairbanks, der von riesigen Moskitos angegriffen wird. In der Nähe steht auch William S. Hart, dem er ein Gewehr abnimmt und die Mücken erschießt. Dieser Akt der Tapferkeit amüsiert Cecil B. DeMille, der ihn daraufhin unter Vertrag nimmt.

Felix begegnet auch Charlie Chaplin, Will Hays, Snub Pollard, Ben Turpin und Gloria Swanson, indem er durch das Schlüsselloch ihrer Garderobe späht.
