„Bird of Paradise“ is an adventure film by King Vidor based on the 1932 play „The Bird of Paradise“ by Richard Walton Tully and the screenplay by Wells Root, Wanda Tuchock and Leonard Praskins.
A young American falls madly in love with a beautiful Polynesian woman during a trip to the South Pacific islands. Luana gives in to his advances but the couple is threatened by the promise of the girl's father to marry her to the prince of a neighboring island. The two lovebirds in paradise then decide to run away.

Ein junger Amerikaner verliebt sich während einer Reise zu den südpazifischen Inseln in eine schöne Polynesierin. Luana lässt sich auf seine Annäherungsversuche ein, aber das Paar wird durch das Versprechen des Vaters des Mädchens bedroht, sie mit dem Prinzen einer Nachbarinsel zu verheiraten. Die beiden Turteltauben im Paradies beschließen daraufhin zu fliehen.
