His New Profession is a silent comedy film from 1914, written and directed by Charles Chaplin.

Charlie meets a couple and agrees to look after their crippled uncle. However, the couple split up and the guy’s new girlfriend drops some eggs, which Charlie slips on while trying to control the invalid chair. Charlie parks the uncle next to another wheelchair on a pier and adds a crippled sign and a beggar’s cup – the money starts pouring in. Charlie takes the money and buys himself a drink. When he returns, he meets the abandoned young woman, pushes the uncle and his wheelchair into the drink, fights with the beggar and two policemen – one of whom arrests the uncle, by the way – beats his rival and finally gets his girl.

Charlie trifft ein Pärchen und stimmt zu, sich um den verkrüppelten Onkel zu kümmern. Das paar trennt sich jedoch und das neue Mädchen des Kerl lässt ein paar Eier fallen, auf denen Charlie ausrutscht, während er versucht den Krankenstuhl zu kontrollieren. Charlie stellt den Onken neben einem anderen Rollstuhl auf einem Steg ab, und stellt zusätzlich ein Krüppel-Schild und eine Bettler-Tasse auf – das Geld beginnt nur so zu fliessen. Charlie nimmt sich das Geld und kauft sich einen Drink. Als er zurückkehrt, lernt er die verlassene junge Frau kennen, schiebt den Onkel mitsamt Rollstuhl ins Getränk, kämpft mit dem Bettler und zwei Polizisten – einer von deen verhaftet übrigens den Onkel – schlägt seinen Rivallen und bekommt schließlich sein Mädchen.
