“The Eagle” is a 1925 silent drama film directed by Clarence Brown. The screenplay by Hans Kraly and George Marion Jr. (intertitles) is based on the 1941 unfinished novel “Dubrovsky” (Дубровский) by Alexander Pushkin.

A wanted Russian lieutenant becomes a masked vigilante seeking vengeance upon the man who stole his family’s land, only to fall for his charming daughter.
Vladimir Dubrouvsky, a lieutenant in the Russian army, catches the eye of Czarina Catherine II. He spurns her advances and flees, and she puts out a warrant for his arrest, dead or alive. Vladimir learns that his father’s lands have been taken by the evil Kyrilla Troekouroff, and his father dies. He dons a black mask, and becomes the outlaw The Black Eagle. He enters the Troekouroff household disguised as a French instructor for Kyrilla’s daughter Mascha. He is after vengeance, but instead falls in love with Mascha.

Ein gesuchter russischer Leutnant wird zu einem maskierten Rächer, der Rache an dem Mann nehmen will, der seiner Familie das Land gestohlen hat, und sich dabei in dessen charmante Tochter verliebt.
Vladimir Dubrouvsky, Leutnant der russischen Armee, fällt Zarin Katharina II. ins Auge. Er weist ihre Avancen zurück und flieht, woraufhin sie einen Haftbefehl gegen ihn erlässt, tot oder lebendig. Vladimir erfährt, dass das Land seines Vaters von dem bösen Kyrilla Troekouroff beschlagnahmt wurde und sein Vater stirbt. Er setzt eine schwarze Maske auf und wird zum Gesetzlosen „The Black Eagle“. Er dringt als französischer Lehrer für Kyrillas Tochter Mascha getarnt in das Haus der Troekouroffs ein. Er ist auf Rache aus, verliebt sich jedoch stattdessen in Mascha.
