William Everett Preston (2. September 1946 – 6. Juni 2006) war ein US-amerikanischer Musiker, dessen Schaffen die Genres R&B, Rock, Soul, Funk und Gospel umfasste. Preston war in den 1960er Jahren ein gefragter Session-Keyboarder und begleitete in dieser Zeit Künstler wie Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, die Everly Brothers, Reverend James Cleveland und die Beatles. Später erlangte er als Solokünstler Ruhm mit Hit-Singles wie „That’s the Way God Planned It“, dem mit einem Grammy ausgezeichneten „Outa-Space“, „Will It Go Round in Circles“, „Space Race“, „Nothing from Nothing“ und „With You I’m Born Again“. Zudem war Preston Mitautor von „You Are So Beautiful“, das für Joe Cocker ein Hit auf Platz 5 wurde.

Preston war einer von fünf Musikern, die auf einer Beatles-Aufnahme genannt wurden, abgesehen von den vier Mitgliedern der Gruppe. Preston nahm weiterhin Alben auf und trat mit anderen Künstlern auf, insbesondere mit George Harrison nach der Auflösung der Beatles sowie mit Eric Clapton, und er spielte in den 1970er Jahren auf vielen Alben und Tourneen der Rolling Stones am Keyboard.

William Everett Preston (September 2, 1946 – June 6, 2006) was an American musician whose work spanned the genres of R&B, rock, soul, funk, and gospel. Preston was a sought-after session keyboardist in the 1960s and accompanied artists such as Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, the Everly Brothers, Reverend James Cleveland, and the Beatles during that time. He later achieved fame as a solo artist with hit singles such as “That’s the Way God Planned It,” the Grammy-winning “Outa-Space,” “Will It Go Round in Circles,” “Space Race,” “Nothing from Nothing,” and “With You I’m Born Again.” Preston also co-wrote “You Are So Beautiful,” which became a No. 5 hit for Joe Cocker.

Preston was one of five musicians credited on a Beatles recording, aside from the four members of the group. Preston continued to record albums and perform with other artists, notably with George Harrison after the Beatles broke up, as well as with Eric Clapton, and he played keyboards on many Rolling Stones albums and tours in the 1970s.
